My baby is particularly sweaty, especially when sleeping. Is this due to a calcium deficiency? Feb 17 , 2023

Although calcium deficiency is caused by long-term vitamin D deficiency, and excessive sweating is one of the clinical manifestations of rickets, excessive sweating is not always rickets, and it cannot be used as a direct cause of calcium deficiency.

Infants have a lot of microvascular distribution on the skin surface, a lot of water, and a strong metabolism, which generates more heat and metabolic products, but their sweat glands and nervous system are not yet well developed and cannot effectively regulate the excessive heat, so they can only distribute the heat from their bodies through sweating, which is usually concentrated on the head and neck.

If the child exercises a lot during the day and the heat is not dissipated in a timely manner, the child will easily sweat after going to sleep; if the child drinks high-calorie drinks before going to bed, the room temperature is too high, the cover is too thick, and so on, the child will also produce a lot of heat about 1~2 hours after going to sleep, resulting in skin sweating, which is a normal physiological phenomenon.
