How much DHA should a baby consume on a daily basis? Jan 10 , 2023

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is essential for the development of the nervous system and brain nerves.  It plays an important role in infant intelligence and brain development and has numerous effects such as assisting brain cell development, anti-aging, improving blood circulation, and lowering blood lipids.

The amount of unsaturated fatty acids in breast milk is sufficient for breastfed infants as long as the mother eats a balanced diet and consumes foods high in unsaturated fatty acids. If unsaturated fatty acids are added to the formula, no additional supplementation is required for formula-fed infants.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) recommend a daily DHA+EPA intake of 100-150 mg for children aged 2-4, 150-200 mg for children aged 4-6, and 200-250 mg for children aged 6-10.
